The Hull & East Riding Chess Association runs several competitions, organises a number of events throughout the year and has teams competing in competitions run by other organisations, i.e. the Yorkshire Chess Association and the 4NCL. More details can be found below.
As mentioned above, we organise several competitions, in which teams from clubs located in and around Hull participate. We have a winter league season, that runs from 1st of September until 31st of May. In that, we have a 6-board league, with 2 divisions, 6 teams in each, and a 4-board (handicapped) league, with 2 divisions, 8 teams in each. We also have a summer league season, that runs from 1st of June till 31st of August. In that, we have 2 sections, with 2 different maximum team rating limits, in which teams of 4 players compete. The Hull & East Riding Chess Association organises an annual congress, that is open for all players. The last few years we’ve teamed up with the 4NCL. The 2026 Congress will take place Friday 25th – Sunday 27th September. Details can be found here
We also run an annual Rapid Tournament, usually on the 1st of 2nd Sunday in January. The 2026 Rapid tournament took place on the 4th of January. For the results, click here
The Hull & East Riding Chess Association compete in the Yorkshire League, with 3 teams. In 2026 HERCA A Team won the Woodhouse Cup (top division), with teams also in the IM Brown (second division) and the AG Sunderland.
