HERCA’s annual Team Lightning event took place on 16th July, in a very hot room at the University Library.
10 teams competed for the coveted George Willoughby and Peter Withill trophies.
This year we had 2 new entries: A team from the Brough Chess Group (Brough chess | Groups | Facebook) and a team of independents drawn from the Nostalgia, Springhead and Central Library Groups.
The George Willoughby Trophy was won by a very strong Hull 1 team, consisting of John Cooper, Joe Varley, Maharnab Choudhury and Dovydas Chvatovas.
The Peter Withill competition, which is a handicapped tournament (lower rated teams get a headstart in board points), was won by the by the aptly named Hull Better Late Than Never (Jack Walker, David Li, Joe Catto and Paul Allison).
