New sections for 2026-27
CALLING ALL KEEN CHESS PLAYERS!
What is new?
The annual Hull Chess Congress has always been successful in attracting a wide range of players from the East Riding of Yorkshire and beyond.
This year, the organisers are aiming to broaden, and deepen, the appeal of the event, by introducing a new section for players whose ECF rating is lower than 1200.
The Open, under 2000, and under 1700 sections will also be run, as normal.
How is this different?
Under 1200 and under 1500 will run on the Saturday and Sunday only, not on the Friday evening. The matches will be shorter than in the other sections.
Why the change?
The aim is to make the event more attractive to players who would like to play in a Congress, but who have never yet done so, or have very little experience of Congress play. Aspiring young players and adventurous adult players are all in our sights!
We are intending to offer some support and preparation to players in these categories who might want to take part.
What to do now?
If you think you might be interested in entering either the under 1500 or under 1200 sections, please contact keithporteousinhull@yahoo.co.uk.
If you do not have a rating at all, or you have only an on-line rating, please get in touch anyway. To do this in no way commits you to anything, it is just an expression of interest.
