National Club Champions!

Two local clubs can now boast a national title. A team from Hull Chess Club, captained by Jack Walker won the U2000 event and Victoria Dock, jointly captained by Richard Atkinson and Jim Miklevicz won the U1700. What’s more Beverley were runners up in the U2000 and a furhter Hull team were runners up in the U1700.

The ECF National Clubs Championships were held at the University over the weekend of 20th-22nd October, providing a unique opportunity for local players to represent thier clubs in a national event. Four clubs (Beverley, East Hull, Hull (who fielded five teams) and Victoria Dock) and over 40 players took the opportunity to play in a national event right on their own doorstep! An opportunity unlikely to be repeated. Local teams secured four of six available trophies Together with a handy cash price and some nice trophies to keep.

The open event was won by 3C’s – a Manchester based team.

You can replay almost every game of the tournament (as they were nearly all played on live boards), together with four hours of commentary on the last round by GM Peter Wells and WIM Natasha Regan; plus all the results, cross tables and photographs of the event on the tournament web page:
